St Mary’s Church lies in a tranquil rural setting in Old Walditch, a five-minute drive from Bridport, and also serves the housing estate in Lower Walditch, with community activities in the village hall.
The current church was built in 1863 although records of a place of worship on the site date back to Tudor times. It’s a small building, seating about 70, and its memorials include one to the American GIs stationed in the village just before the D-Day Normandy landings in 1944. The church has a 12th-century font made of Purbeck stone, and beautiful corbels in the chancel carved to resemble foxgloves, ferns and blackberries.
The churchyard is part of the Living Churchyard project and is well maintained. Seating is provided for quiet reflection.
There is usually a Morning Praise service on three Thursdays each month and a sung Holy Communion service on the fourth Sunday.
